My Background

I am a dedicated educator and lifelong learner, originally from Calgary, who now calls Lethbridge home after moving here to pursue my studies and play rugby for the University of Lethbridge.

My professional journey began in Junior High teaching, which provided me with a strong foundation in classroom dynamics, leading to my current role over the past eight years as a lead outreach teacher. This specialized experience has sharpened my ability to manage complex educational environments and support diverse student needs.

I hold a Master's degree in Applied Positive Psychology and Leadership, equipping me with advanced strategies for fostering well-being, resilience, and positive organizational change, which I share by leading workshops in professional development for both educators and education assistants.

Outside of the classroom, I am committed to continuous personal growth. I am a certified yoga teacher and enjoy the rigor and community of competing in CrossFit. I recently took up fly fishing with my fiancé, which has quickly become a cherished way to connect with the quiet beauty of Alberta's landscapes. This blend of professional expertise and personal passion defines my approach—a balanced commitment to both rigor and well-being.

Workshops

2023/2024 Targeted Interventions - PD Session

I designed and delivered targeted professional development sessions for both teachers and education assistants (EAs), focusing on evidence-based strategies to manage and support complex student behaviors. These workshops moved beyond general classroom management by diving into the specific needs of students with neurodevelopmental and mental health considerations, including ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and generalized anxiety.

The sessions were structured to be highly practical, emphasizing collaborative discussion and the development of targeted, individualized interventions. For teachers, the PD centered on integrating foundational knowledge with effective instructional adjustments and tier-one supports. For EAs, the focus was on specific, in-the-moment strategies and de-escalation techniques. The overarching goal of the training was to build capacity in the classroom by empowering all staff members with a deeper understanding of behavior as communication, and equipping them with a robust toolkit to foster a more inclusive, predictable, and supportive learning environment for every student.

At the Southeastern (SEATCA) and South Western (SWATCA) Alberta Teachers' Conventions, I facilitated engaging sessions focused on managing complex behaviors in the classroom.

The workshops were designed to move beyond theoretical concepts and dive straight into realistic, applicable strategies. A key component was creating a safe, confidential space for teachers to actively voice their specific, real-world challenges. By openly discussing the complex student profiles and unique classroom dynamics they faced, we collaboratively refined interventions and behavior support plans. This ensured that every strategy shared was practical, personalized, and immediately implementable, directly building the confidence and capacity of educators to effectively support all students.

During my Master's studies, I presented a lecture on Servant Leadership, focusing on the critical step of turning this philosophy into tangible, actionable practice.

The session moved beyond the theoretical framework to provide coaches and organizational leaders with concrete methods for genuinely supporting and leading their staff and players. We explored how prioritizing the growth, well-being, and autonomy of team members—the core of servant leadership—directly translates into higher performance and engagement.

Key takeaways included practical strategies for active listening, empathetic communication, building organizational capacity, and implementing systems that tangibly support individuals' development, thereby creating environments where both the people and the organization can flourish.
